Design and Planning

Permitting and Drafting

Building a home is a large responsibility, so we take it seriously. The well-being of whoever works on it and who lives there depends on it! To that end, our team works closely with your city’s building department. Many municipalities require professional mechanical and electrical stamps on an architect’s design just to get a building permit. What about engineering? While you may be able to sidestep the engineering process in some regions, the gorgeous Gulf Coast is not one of them. Our unique waterfront views and proximity to the Gulf makes this a hurricane zone. So engineering is a must, especially in places like Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Point Clear. And it can get even more specific, all the way down to individual addresses. This is particularly so in places with diverse soil conditions. (Like Baldwin County.)

Some building departments require a engineer’s stamp before they’ll approve house plans. In this case, only a stamp from a professional in the state where you’re building will be accepted. A local engineer or architect should be able to review the house plans and stamp them for you. Our team contains an architect, an engineer, and Lance Lamb. (President of Green Coast Living) He is an experienced, licensed Alabama Home Builder. Together, we work with you to make sure you get accurate, certified drawings for your project as smoothly as possible.

Cabinet and Kitchen Design

They say the kitchen is the heart of the home. Studies show that Americans spend over 2 weeks in the kitchen every year! And for those of us who like to cook, it can be much more than just a place to make food. Many of our favorite home renovations began as merely a kitchen remodel. At Green Coast Living, we have decades-experienced craftsman who we work closely with to create your custom cabinets. Our carpenters expertly blend handmade quality with cutting-edge tools and design programs. We use rendering and CAD services to create proof models for your approval, making sure your vision comes to life in every little detail. From the countertops to the tile, the hardware to the paint color, you have full control. If you feel like that could be overwhelming, that’s OK too. We also have a talented interior design consultant on our team. She can help you create a timeless, user-friendly, and beautiful living space. We want to support you as you design a kitchen that truly brings your friends and family together.

Waterfront Building

What drew you to the Gulf Coast? Was it the sparkling sunsets, the calming waves, or was it the fresh seafood and beautiful wildlife? Regardless, the one thing that connects it all is water. Building a house by the water is one of the best ways to take advantage of it all. But, as you know, waterfront building presents unique challenges. For one, the building codes are more strict. Also, the moisture and salt in the air and ground can cause things to decay more quickly.

Sometimes construction in sand or a high water table can be difficult. At Green Coast Living, we are happily equipped to guide you through these obstacles. We’ve built on the water many times, even in places like Ono Island in Orange Beach and Fort Morgan in Gulf Shores. We use high-quality materials to best resist the elements, and our local team and crew are familiar with the best techniques for our area. We also have done extensive multi-story remodels and post-hurricane repairs for clients with mold and water damage. Whatever your needs, we have the experience and certification to make it happen!
